Friends of Fisherwick Wood, Lakes & Wildlife |
The ‘Friends’ group was established early in 2006 – to protect the Fisherwick Wood lakes area (about 150 metres from Fisherwick Wood), under threat from developments at Elford Quarry. Our campaign, which included a petition signed by over 600 local residents, has led to the preservation of a significant area of wetland on this site, and the group is still involved, along with the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, in the final restoration plans for the area. The importance of the provision of wetlands in the area is becoming more apparent as local communities, such as Elford, increasingly are experiencing flooding. |
| Our eventual aim is to see the whole area – Fisherwick Wood, Lakes & the Elford Quarry Site forming part of a wider nature reserve, with access by the community to enjoy & conserve the natural environment & wildlife. |
