Whittington Countryside and Craft Fair 2010

Saturday 4th September 2010 – 10.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.

Whittington Countryside and Craft Fair is an annual traditional country fair that attracts some five thousand people, provides an excellent family day out and raises money for local voluntary groups and charities. The fair is a celebration of our rural heritage. All money raised is ploughed back into the community mainly through grants to local voluntary organisations and services.

When the Parish Council embarked on a Countryside Fair in 2004 it had no idea it was going to become an annual event. Last year, following the atrocious conditions at the 2008 event the weather was kinder and many thousands turned up on the day which raised over £9500. Together with some £3000 profit from the Whittington Summer Ball your Council handed back just under £10000 to the community, in the form of grants to village clubs, groups and organisations.

The Countryside Fair however is not just about raising money. It is about providing an interesting and enjoyable family day out, bringing the community together through one large project, allowing village groups to raise their own monies on the day and also raising the profile of work done by your Parish Council.

Though the Countryside Fair is a Parish Council led initiative we do call on assistance and help from others during the build up to the event and particularly on the day before and also on the Sunday following the event. Any volunteers please do just turn up on those two days or give your Chairman or any of your Councillors a ring to pledge your support.

The day will feature heavy horses, falconry, sheep dog demonstrations, ferrets, dog show and dog obedience, agricultural displays, classic cars, tug of war, thatching, steam engine rides, children's fairground attractions, tractor and trailer rides, pony rides, quad bikes, a mobile skate park, a farrier, chain saw sculpture, a military band concert and display, face painting, llamas, licensed bar, food outlets, over 100 trade and craft stalls in marquee and outside, a flower arranging competition and a produce show.
